When it comes to modelling complex systems garbage in, garbage out is excessively optimistic. Avoiding garbage out even when the input is sound is no mean feat. The problems arise when we simply believe the output for no reason other than it came out of a computer. This mysticism has been used to hoodwink the public ever since the Club of Rome produced 'the Limits to Growth'.
